JUST LIKE HEAVEN
Performed by JOY ZIPPER

Tabitha Tindale: Vocals
Vincent Cafiso: Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Keyboards
Charles Ranoudo: Drums
Produced by Vincent Cafiso
Engineered by Tabitha Tindale
"It wasn't until Kevin Shields played us some of his earliest music that we realized how much of a seminal band the Cure really is. Robert Smith's songwriting is so etheral and yet totally structured. We never would have related the two bands to one another but if you listen through all of My Bloody Valentine's layers the inspiration is clear. Of the long list of bands inspired by MBV, us included, a lot of the credit really needs to go to the Cure." -- Joy Zipper

"In The mid-80's, Boston had a local video channel called V66. They played the video for 'In Between Days' about 10 times a day and I fell for the Cure instantly. Suddenly there were these sounds I never heard before and stories I responded to instantly. Perfect music for a misunderstood kid growing up in the all too stifling suburbs. Tanya and I made a list of songs we wanted to cover - a very long list. 'The Lovecats' ended up on both of our lists and we knew we could have a lot of fun with it - and we did!" -- Brian Sullivan (Dylan in the Movies)

LOVESONG
Performed by THE BRUNETTES
Website
Jonathan Bree: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Percussion, Keyboards, Xylophone, Vocals
Heather Mansfield: Vocals
Chelsea Nikkel: Piano
Harry Cundy: Trumpet
Produced by Jonathan Bree
"Disintegration was my first Cure album. All the tracks on that album are pretty special to me. Listening to it reminds me of mornings spraying my hair up before primary school and listening to it on my brand new walkman on the way to and from there. It's funny looking back now but at the time it wasn't welcome on the family stereo because of it's morbid nature and I remember my Dad being horrified at the hot pink poster I had on my bedroom wall of Robert Smith with kiss me kiss me kiss me scrolled around it. 'Love Song' seemed to work ok as a duet so we had a go at that one." -- Jonathan Bree

IN BETWEEN DAYS
Performed by KITTY KARLYLE
Website
Mike Henry: Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards
Margo McAdams: Bass, Vocals
David Weeks: Guitar
Sharon Lord Greenspan: Drums, Vocals
Produced by John Perez
"Sometimes we, the members of Kitty Karlyle, try to imagine what it would have been like if we went to high school with Robert Smith. We're not sure if he would have wanted to be our friend, but it's a safe bet we would have sat at the same lunch table. Back in the day, our Cure albums were sacred objects. They taught us to embrace our disaffection, our alienation, our despair. They celebrated everything that was good about everything that was bad. And no song in the Cure catalogue so perfectly typified the light-from-darkness ethos as In Between Days. Robert wanted to die! He shivered like a child! He pleaded with a lost lover to come back, come back, come back to him! And yet... as those synthesizers wrapped their loving arms around you, and the guitars bounced off your bedroom walls, you couldn't help but feel like it was your lucky day. For three perfect minutes, you could stop sobbing into your pillow, and dance on your bed. Excuse us... our mascara is running." -- Kitty Karlyle

JUMPING SOMEONE ELSES TRAIN
Performed by LUFF
Website
Sheila Sobolewski: Vocals, Guitar, Samples
Robin Pickering: Guitar
Terry LaFrazia: Bass
Riff Richards: Drums
Recorded by Jake Giannini
Mixed by Jake Giannini and Sheila Sobolewski
"We all listened to a lot of the Cure while growing up; Robin's favorite memory is seeing them on the Lovesong tour and them playing "10:15 on a Saturday Night" at 10:15, and it was a Saturday night, and as Robert Smith sang "and the tap dripped, drip, drip, drip..." it started to rain. Not to mention that the Cure validated our existence as alterna-teens who didn't fit the mold of "normal" during the pre-Nirvana years. When we revisited the Cure's extensive catalogue to choose a song, we felt that "Jumping Someone Else's Train" was still a very valid song today as social commentary and would be a fun song to interpret in our own style." -- Luff

BOYS DON'T CRY
Performed by THE SUBMARINES
Website
Produced and recorded at home by The Submarines
"We chose "Boys Don't Cry" because it's such a great classic pop song -- deceptively simple but masterfully crafted. And it just feels good. We were hoping to bring something a bit different to an often revisited tune, approaching it with elements of old school dub, a sound we hold dear." -- The Submarines

Produced by Dustin O'Halloran and Pal Jenkins
Recorded live and mixed at Stereo Disguise by Pal Jenkins
"We have always been big fans of The Cure. Catch was always a favorite of ours, as we think it falls somewhere between their obvious pop hits and their moodier pieces. It feels like one of the few real intimate moments of the band and sounds like it was probably recorded live. We tried to keep that spirit alive in our version and recorded it live as well." -- Devics

A STRANGE DAY
Performed by GRAND DUCHY (VIOLET CLARK & BLACK FRANCIS)
Website (Violet Clark)
Website (Black Francis)
Violet "Dunmore" Clark: Vocals, Bass, Synths, Drums
Black Francis: Acoustic and Electric Guitars
Produced by Jason Carter
"The oeuvre of The Cure is, to me, the musical equivalent of the Encyclopedia Britannica -- an amazing reference tool for researching the myriad ways one can approach the task of constructing a flawless, unique, hooky, synth-based pop song, over and over and over. There's the hilariously vibrant, catchy tunes, and then the gorgeous ones that haunt. It's all just so good. Anyone who tells you that Robert Smith is not a complete genius is a stick-in-the-mud." -- Violet Clark
"We chose "A Strange Day" because it's an awesome song, and it's not one of the Hits. It's just obscure enough to have allowed us to come out of left field a bit, and to represent a lesser-known period in the Cure's career for the tribute record. We really had fun reinventing the song and being playful without the self-consciousness one might encounter when messing with the iconic quality of some of the more well-known songs." -- Grand Duchy
